Release Notes - April 2024

New Functionality & Enhancements

  • Accolade Projects introduces support for Kanban!

This release, Accolade Projects includes a brand new "Kanban" project type. With this, Accolade Projects now provides our users with a single solution to use all three leading, most commonly used project management methodologies, i.e. Waterfall, Scrum, and Kanban, to manage projects.

For those customers who have predefined Kanban workflows, their PMOs can take advantage of Accolade Projects's Kanban Templates, to provide pre-configured Kanban workflows for project managers. Kanban Templates can be created and managed on the Plan > Project Templates page, and can include a pre-configured list of Backlog cards.

To create a Kanban project, ensure that you select the Kanban project type, or a Kanban template, when creating your project. Once created, you will notice that the WBS tab, which appears in Waterfall and Scrum projects, is replaced by the Kanban tab. Unless utilizing a template, an Accolade Projects Kanban Board has four default columns, or states, i.e., Backlog, Inflight, Complete, and Cancelled (this column is hidden by default). PMOs can rename these columns and add additional Inflight columns as needed, but the default four columns cannot be deleted.

Note:  Kanban projects support EZ Mode and Timecard Mode, and follow the usual Accolade Projects governance rules; i.e. change controls in Kanban projects work the same as with Waterfall or Scrum projects. As such, items created on a Kanban board cannot be moved out of the Backlog column unless your project is inflight. Similarly, items must be in an Inflight column, for them to show on Timecards. Additionally, when cards are moved into any Inflight status, they are automatically considered published.

After you have set up your project as desired, add your project work items, i.e. cards, to your Kanban Board. Accolade Projects supports the management of epics, stories, tasks, QA tasks, and defects as cards. Then, set up resources, financials, milestones, and attachments as needed.

For more in depth information and steps, see this Accolade Projects Kanban User Guide.
