Defining Features with Milestones

A milestone is a specific, measurable event or achievement that signifies a major step forward in a project. It's not just about completing an item or reaching a certain date; it's about reaching a key accomplishment that moves the project closer to its overall goal.

In Accolade Projects, milestones can be defined during initial planning or introduced mid-project to address evolving needs.

To add milestones to projects:

To do this, you must have a PMO or Project Manager user role assigned to your account.

  1. Log in to Accolade Projects.
  2. To locate the project you need, do either of the following:
    • Search via the Quick Search Bar on the top right of your screen.

    • If you are currently working on the project, select Workspace, located on the navigation bar at the top of the page, and click on the My Projects tab.

    • If the project has not started yet, select Plan, located on the navigation bar at the top of the page, and click on Proposed Projects.

    • If the project is in-flight, select Manage, located on the navigation bar at the top of the page, and click on Projects (Brief) or Projects (Detailed).

  3. To access the Project’s Online Project Editor, click on located to the left of the respective project. Click on the Milestones tab.

    • Alternatively, to open the Milestones page, when in the Workspace > My Projects tab, click on located to the left of the respective project.

  4. There are two types of milestones you can create:

    • Milestones

    • Release Milestones

Click on Add New Milestone as desired.

Alternatively, click on respective to a milestone to add a similar type of milestone after the selected one.

  5. Follow the respective steps to create a milestone:

    1. Enter a name, reference number and description to the milestone.

    2. Select a Target Start date and a Target End date, for the milestone.

    3. In the Tasks section, click on the respective check boxes to show unattached drafts and/or show unattached canceled tasks. Adding tasks to your milestone will make it so that once all of the selected tasks are complete, the milestone will also be marked complete. Any items you've added to your project plan will appear here on the list to choose from. To set the necessary items for this milestone, click on the check boxes to the left of each item in the Tasks section.

Note:  This step must be done after creating the project’s Work Breakdown Structure. For more information on creating the Work Breakdown Structure, see Building a Sprint Backlog with the WBS.

    4. Click on the Create button, located at the bottom right of the dialog.
